Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the Fotomuseum Winterthur. With texts by Paul Virilio, Diego Mormorio, Michael Jakob, and Giovanna Ginex. Text in German/French/Italian. Commissioned by the northern Italian construction company Girola, the photographer Antonio Paoletti (1881-1943) accompanied the work on the power plants that Girola were building in the mountains of northern Italy. From the access road, through the erection of the scaffolding and formwork and immense earthmoving, to the idyllic reservoir, his photographs show the creation of the power plants that produce "white energy" from water.

Paoletti's large-format glass plate negatives and enlargements from the 1930s and 1940s capture the transformation of the landscape and the profound changes in nature. Long neglected in the company's Milan archives, these unique photographs are now being brought to light for the first time. Texts by philosopher Paul Virilio, architectural historian Michael Jakob, and photo historian Diego Mormorio place this discovery in the history of photography and industry.
